The Miracle of MSM: Nature's Pain Reliever
What is MSM?
MSM stands for methylsulfonylmethane, an organic form of sulfur. Sulfur is the fourth most plentiful mineral in your body and is essential for life. It is an important element for all cells and body tissues, especially for joint tissue where it functions in the stabilization of the connective tissue of cartilage, tendons, and ligaments.
Starting in the 1930s, researchers reported arthritis sufferers were deficient in sulfur, and that restoring sulfur levels provided significant benefits to these patients. It wasn’t until 1979, however, that Dr. Stanley Jacob, M.D. discovered MSM while doing research at Oregon Health and Sciences University in Portland Oregon. A surgeon and former instructor of surgery at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Jacob is considered the world’s foremost expert on MSM research and clinical applications. He has used MSM with over 18,000 patients in his practice for the last 25 years successfully treating patients with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, muscle soreness and muscle pain.
How Does MSM Work?
Approximately half of the total body sulfur is concentrated in the muscles, skin and bones. One of the most significant uses of MSM as a supplement is its demonstrated ability to relieve pain and inflammation. When rigid fibrous tissue cells swell and become inflamed, pressure and pain result.
Since MSM can restore flexibility and permeability to cell walls, fluids can pass through the tissues more easily. This helps equalize pressure and reduce or eliminate the cause of pain. Harmful substances such as lactic acid and toxins are allowed to flow out, while nutrients are permitted to flow in. This prevents the pressure buildup in cells that causes inflammation.
Not Just for Pain and Inflammation
A body made up of healthy, flexible cells will not only feel better, it will look better too. Your body is continuously at work replacing worn out cells with new ones. The process goes on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The body uses MSM along with Vitamin C to create new, healthy cells, and MSM provides the flexible bond between the cells.
Lack of proper levels of MSM can lead to problems such as lost flexibility, scar tissue, wrinkles, varicose veins, dry cracking skin, and joint problems.
MSM has shown a remarkable ability to reduce or eliminate muscle soreness and cramps both in geriatric patients and in athletes. It's even given to racehorses before a race to prevent muscle soreness, and afterward to reduce the risk of cramping.
Other conditions that have responded to MSM include acne, allergies, asthma, candida yeast infections, carpal tunnel syndrome, chronic fatigue, constipation, diabetes, digestive disorders, fragile hair and nails, migraine headaches, parasites, skin damage and ulcers.
MSM is truly remarkable stuff, providing safe and very effective relief of pain and inflammation. You do not have to be suffering from a chronic illness to benefit from MSM. If you are tired of hurting, particularly if you are active, MSM works great at getting rid of those aches and pains, allowing you to enjoy life and activities to their fullest.
How can I use MSM?
MSM can relieve pain and help repair worn or damaged cartilage in joints, ligaments and tendons with healthy, flexible new cells. For severe health conditions MSM is given orally or intravenously by injection directly into the bloodstream. High dosages are often required and combination with vitamins and minerals provides best results.
Topical applications allow MSM to be applied directly to the source of pain or inflammation. MSM is one of the primary pain-relieving ingredients in AcuPlus, the only FDA registered pain relief cream that combines over 10 all-natural ingredients including MSM that are targeted towards pain reduction and healing.
