Glucosamine

Glucosamine possesses natural anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties. One of the most popular supplements used by people with bone and joint pain, glucosamine aids in treating common symptoms of age-related disorders like arthritis. A clinical study published in the Journal of Rheumatology showed benefits from using topical Glucosamine. The study was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, testing the efficiency of topical Glucosamine creams for Osteoarthritis of the knee. The study revealed that the participants who used the topical Glucosamine agent experienced knee pain relief, whereas those who used the placebo topical agent did not.

Magnesium

Transdermal magnesium is a fast-acting way to get the benefits of magnesium. Topical magnesium has been used for centuries as a treatment for sore muscles, pain, cramping, andRestless Leg Syndrome. In addition to these pain relieving properties additional documented benefits from magnesium include better sleep and relief from stressClinical experience, as well as research in nerve pain conditions such as pancreatic cancer, has shown that magnesium can be an effective treatment for pain. One such study published in TheJournal of Physiology showed that magnesium decreased nerve pain by blocking one of the primary neurotransmitters responsible for carrying pain signals to your brain.

Arnica

Arnica Montana, a plant native to mountainous areas of Europe and North America, has been used for centuries to treat a variety of pain.  The active components in Arnica are sesquiterpene lactones, which are known for their anti-inflammatory and pain reduction properties. Arnica also contains thymol (an essential oil), flavonoids, inulin, carotenoids and tannins which stimulate blood circulation. Arnica works by stimulating the activity of white blood cells that perform much of the digestion of congested blood, and by dispersing trapped fluids from bruised tissue, joints and muscle. Arnica has also been shown to improve the health and conductivity of certain nerves. Several published studies have shown the benefits of Arnica in treating osteoarthritis with significant reductions in pain and stiffness.

Menthol

AcuPlus is classified as a topical analgesic, which work through a ‘counter irritant’ mechanism. This means that the menthol in AcuPlus creates a sensation that overrides pain signals to the brain. This process is known as the ‘Gate Control Theory’, where nerve impulses from one stimulus block the nerves containing pain signals to the brain. Recent research also suggests that menthol may stimulate cold receptors in the skin that may help regulate pain as well. This is known as ‘cold therapy,’ or cryotherapy. Cryotherapy is the application of cold to temporarily relieve pain. The most common form of cryotherapy is ice. AcuPlus produces the same sensation of cold that accompanies icing but without the pain and numbness sometimes associated with ice. Best of all, AcuPlus products allow you to remain active during treatment.

Willow Bark Extract

Willow bark is the bark from several varieties of the willow tree and is used to make medicine. Willow bark’s pain relieving potential has been recognized throughout history. Willow bark was commonly used during the time of Hippocrates, when people were advised to chew on the bark to relieve pain and fever. Willow bark has natural anti-inflammatory properties that have used to treat headache, muscle pain, menstrual cramps, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout and a disease of the spine called ankylosing spondylitis.

Boswellia Serrata Extract

Boswellia serrata has been widely studied for its medicinal benefits. Its claim to fame lies in its anti-inflammatory benefits. In fact, Boswellia serrata is so effective at reducing inflammation that it has even been deemed a promising alternative to prescription anti-inflammatories.There are several double blind, placebo-controlled, randomized studies looking at the benefits of Boswellia Serata versus placebo for osteoarthritis. These studies have shown both clinically and statistically significant improvements in pain and physical function. In one study looking at knee pain the participants enjoyed less pain, improved movement, could walk farther for longer, and had less incidence of swelling. One of the best-studied areas of Boswellia serrata is with osteoarthritis. Clearly, when it comes to osteoarthritis, Boswellia serrata not only works, but is highly effective, safe, and tolerable.

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B6, also called pyridoxine, is involved in the process of making serotonin and norepinephrine, which are chemicals that transmit signals in the brain. Vitamin B6 is also involved in the formation of myelin, a protein layer that forms around nerve cells. Vitamin B6 has been shown to help prevent and treat nerve inflammation. Most treatments involving pyridoxine are oral in nature and usually dispensed in large dosages. AcuPlus uses smaller dosages that can be topically applied directly to the point of discomfort. Vitamin B6 deficiency has long been associated with various symptomatologies including shoulder and leg pain, swollen hands, "tennis elbow," all forms of arthritis, and even carpal tunnel syndrome.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is considered to be the most biologically active of the Aloe species; Aloe vera contains antioxidant vitamins A, C and E — plus vitamin B12, folic acid and choline.  It provides 20 of the 22 human-required amino acids and eight of the eight essential amino acids.  Aloe vera's amazing number of vitamins and minerals have been shown to help reduce inflammation and fight free radical damage. It is also  well known for it’s ability to protect and hydrate the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant, helping protect the body from free radicals, which are compounds that can damage the body. Vitamin E also supports the immune system and helps make red blood cells. Several studies suggest that vitamin E may be helpful in pain management for several conditions, including nerve pain.  An Australian study  found Vitamin E helped reduce exercise-related damage to muscles.

MSM

MSM stands for methylsulfonylmethane, an organic form of sulfur.  Sulfur is the fourth most plentiful mineral in your body and is essential for life.  It is an important element for all cells and body tissues, especially for joint tissue where it functions in the stabilization of the connective tissue of cartilage, tendons, and ligaments.  MSM has shown a remarkable ability to reduce or eliminate muscle soreness and cramps both in geriatric patients and in athletes.  It's even given to race horses before a race to prevent muscle soreness, and afterward to reduce the risk of cramping.

Sulfur is vital to the creation and regeneration of the body's tissues.  It is found in every cell in the body.  When rigid fibrous tissue cells swell and become inflamed, pressure and pain result.  MSM restores the flexibility and permeability of cell walls allowing fluids to pass through the tissues with ease so the cell can also absorb nutrients more easily.  MSM is a powerful detoxifier that allows harmful substances such as lactic acid and toxins to flow out of cells in the joints and muscles, thereby equalizing the pressure and eliminating the cause of pain.  This prevents the pressure buildup in cells that causes inflammation. Lack of proper levels of MSM can lead to problems such as lost flexibility, scar tissue, wrinkles, varicose veins, dry cracking skin, and joint problems.

Ilex

Ilex, an herbal extract from a South American holly shrub, has been employed for centuries as an herbal remedy.  The primary active ingredient in holly is caffeine which helps promote circulation. Ilex was used traditionally by Paraguayan Indians to enhance the effectiveness of their medicines, and today is incorporated into various preparations worldwide to enhance health and wellness.

Licorice Root Extract

Licorice Root Extract has historically been used as a natural muscle relaxer and topical anti-inflammatory as it acts similar to hydrocortisone. It’s anti-inflammatory benefits have also been used as a natural remedy for joint pain.Licorice root has been used for centuries by the Egyptians, Chinese, Greek and many other nations in Asia for medicinal and confectionery purposes. It is also known as Gan Zao and sweet root in Chinese. Licorice root benefits abound and is one of the most widely used herbs in the world. Licorice root has been used to provide pain relief for many health conditions including skin conditions, depression, bursitis, viral infections, arthritis, and tendinitis. Its regular use has also been shown to improve the movements of the joints.
